Both frameworks mature every year, and the "which is better" debate is stale. Here's the 2025 reality — and what we actually recommend to clients.
The state of play
- React Native (0.76+): the new architecture (Fabric, TurboModules, Bridgeless) is now default. Performance is within 5–10% of native for most apps.
- Flutter (3.x): Impeller renderer is stable on iOS and Android. Pixel-perfect UI consistency across platforms — still the strongest selling point.
Choose React Native if...
- You already have a React web team — the ramp-up is minimal.
- You need native modules from the JavaScript ecosystem (maps, payments, analytics).
- You want OTA updates without app store review (CodePush, EAS Update).
Choose Flutter if...
- Your app is UI-heavy with custom animations — Flutter's rendering engine wins.
- You want to target desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) or web from the same codebase.
- Consistency of design across Android and iOS is a business requirement.
Real-world performance
From our own benchmarks on identical test apps:
| Metric | React Native | Flutter |
|---|---|---|
| Cold start (Android) | 1.8s | 1.4s |
| List scroll FPS | 58–60 | 59–60 |
| APK size | 32MB | 42MB |
| iOS build time | Faster | Slower |
Our default recommendation
For most Indian enterprise apps: React Native (team familiarity + ecosystem). For consumer apps with heavy animation and brand-centric design: Flutter. Neither is wrong — the cost of migration dwarfs the cost of picking the "wrong" one for a single project.
